The shaft plane in relation to the target line or straight line plane is the one most frequently referred to. To fully grasp on plane however, you must consider the shoulder plane, the hands plane and the clubface plane. Over my years of coaching I have determined that focusing on the hand plane in relation to the target plane and the impact zone produces the best results with my students. Having the hands on plane reduces timing compensations. The best way to approach the ball is in a straight line thru impact.
